- 966A was built from 1960 through 1963 - the key features including a turbocharged diesel engine - power shift transmission - “one finger” shifting controls and 2-3/4 cubic yard bucket capacity. Caterpillar’s design put the lift arms and hydraulic cylinders ahead of the operator’s compartment. This allowed the operator to mount and dismount the cabin more easily - kept moving parts away from the operator - and provided enhanced forward reach.
